Ebook About
INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER“An irresistible tale which showcases the transformative power of literacy, reminding us of the hope and sanctuary our neighborhood bookstores offer during the perilous trials of war and unrest.”—KIM MICHELE RICHARDSON, author of The Book Woman of Troublesome CreekAugust 1939: London prepares for war as Hitler’s forces sweep across Europe. Grace Bennett has always dreamed of moving to the city, but the bunkers and blackout curtains that she finds on her arrival were not what she expected. And she certainly never imagined she’d wind up working at Primrose Hill, a dusty old bookshop nestled in the heart of London.Through blackouts and air raids as the Blitz intensifies, Grace discovers the power of storytelling to unite her community in ways she never dreamed—a force that triumphs over even the darkest nights of the war.“A gorgeously written story of love, friendship, and survival set against the backdrop of WWII-era London.”—JILLIAN CANTOR, author of In Another Time and Half Life“A love letter to the power of books to unite us, to hold the world together when it’s falling apart around our ears. This fresh take on what London endured during WWII should catapult Madeline Martin to the top tier of historical fiction novelists.”—KAREN ROBARDS, author of The Black Swan of Paris

Book The Last Bookshop in London: A Novel of World War II Review :

I absolutely LOVED this book. I've been looking for a book that would keep me on the couch reading all weekend, something that I haven't been able to find much lately. I happened to see this one mentioned in an e-mail, so I picked it up on a whim, read it on a weekend, and fell in love.I'm not even sure I can articulate why I loved it so much. It was as vivid as a movie; I felt like I was IN WWII-era London, waiting for the bombs to fall and watching the destruction when they did. The characters were likable, brave, and heroic at their cores, but not perfect by any means. And of course, as a reader, the power of words to comfort and distract is a message I enthusiastically endorse. My only disappointment? When I immediately looked for more books by Madeline Martin to read and found that the only books available were steamy romances. Which I'm sure are very well-written, but I just don't read that genre. Please, Ms. Martin, write more superlative historical novels like The Last Bookshop in London. I'll be first in line to buy them!
I have always read about different stories involving World War 11 in the United Kingdom but didn't quite realize the damage and deaths in the London area the German's caused with all the bombing. I was overwhelmed reading the things written by the Author. It has been a eye opener for me. Thanks for this very well written book.
